Went up 6th Street lookin' for some barbeque for lunch today. Several years back we had a bbq joint in Wormleysburg that went by the name of Doe & Jerry's. They had some good 'Q. But their place burned down and they chose not to rebuild (which was mega-disappointing, but that's a topic for another day). Since their departure, there's been a few other joints (Memphis Blues, Freeman's) which have done an adequate job, but haven't been anything special. Which brings us to today.
I've heard about the Camp Curtain restaurant before, but had never been. Well, my sister was looking for some 'Q, so I thought I'd go out and investigate. The Station is located in an old firehouse and has a good bit of charm. They offer dine-in and take-out service and from what I saw, they do a booming take-out business. But I'm not exactly sure why. While the waitress recommended the half-rack dinner, I decided to go for a pulled-pork sandwich with a large side of macaroni and beef.
I was pretty disappointed. the picture below shows you what I was served. Maybe six ounces or so of pork on a hoagie-type roll with a mild sauce on top. I only had two sauce options (mild and hot) that were applied in the kitchen. The pork was pretty bland and the sauce didn't add anything to the party. The macaroni and beef was slightly better. Think macaroni and cheese topped with pulled beef and barbeque sauce. I thought it was good and I'd get it again. The sauce though again was pretty neutral and could've used some more spice.
I may go back. But it wouldn't be my first choice.
